Oh teaching...
So I'm wrapping up with some exams for my seniors today and 5 kids have straight zeros. They have not come to class, literally, ever. They have not turned in homework, late work or taken any tests. I don't even think I've met some of them. Obviously, I'm giving them all 0's because they deserve them. 3 girls came in to the office today asking my friend Beth for a grade when they have not gone to her class ever, over the course of 1 year! She laughed at them and then told me so I could laugh at them. Now, all the Thai teachers told us we were "cruel" (a rather harsh word) because we do our jobs...ahem, I mean don't let the kids pass. I'm honestly insulted because the four of us work harder at this bullshit job than ANY of the other teachers here and then they basically tell us we're mean and "hurting the kids' feelings" because we are failing them. Well, if you constantly disrupt class, cheat on homework, don't come to class or fail to turn in the homework (literally 2 assignments over 5 months) then you're getting a 0! I can't believe these teachers just let these kids get away with anything! This is the main reason I hate teaching - the kids become so used to talking on their phones, walking around, playing guitar, whatever during class and then they're shocked when a teacher is like "No, you are failing because you never do anything". I almost feel guilty punishing the kids when it is the administration that should be held accountable for their laziness, disorganization, lack of punishment and overall blase attitude towards education - especially English. I'm not trying to force English on anyone, it's literally a school policy that the kids must learn it so they need to back up that policy with a positive attitude and sensible curriculum to match. Only 2 more weeks, only 2 more weeks, only 2 more weeks...
